How Often Should The Carpet At The Office Be Cleaned?

It is clear that if you are reading this article you prefer for your business to look and feel clean. Cleanliness at the office will not only bring you more clients, but it will also make your employees feel happier, therefore producing better results. One of the best ways that you can let your employees and customers know that they are welcomed, is by having the carpet feel, look, and smell clean and fresh.

So, how often should the carpet be cleaned?

Well, there is not a specific answer to this question - it depends on several factors. Before we consider these factors, it is necessary to emphasize that a few things can be done in every business to keep the carpet in good shape, regardless how often it's cleaned.

1) Regular vacuuming

Although the perfect scenario would be to vacuum the spaces every day, we understand that not every business has the budget, time, or personnel to do it. If it can’t be done daily, we recommend that it's done at least 3 times a week. Make sure a good and powerful vacuum is used and that it is done slowly so that the vacuum has time to lift the dirt from the carpet.

2) Spot vacuuming

If regular vacuuming can’t be done, the next best thing is to spot vacuum. This means that you only vacuum the spots where the dirt is visible. Of course this is not the best practice because dirt is not usually visible. A mixture of regular vacuuming and spot vacuuming could also work well for your carpet.

Now to the factors that should influence your decision to clean your carpet. These are some guidelines that you can use to determine how often the carpet should be cleaned, but it is always recommended that you speak to your cleaning expert for a more precise recommendation.

1) Foot traffic

This is the #1 factor to consider when deciding how often that carpet should be cleaned. Every area in your business has different foot traffic. For example, the showroom of a car dealership has more foot traffic than the back offices of the same dealership. In other words, you need to consider both your employees and visitors. For high foot traffic areas we recommend deep cleaning every 3 months, and for low traffic areas every 6 months.

2) Surrounding areas

This is another very important factor to consider. If the surrounding areas of your business are mainly green areas, that means that your visitor and employees will be carrying a lot of dirt when they walk in. If this is the case we recommend that you clean your carpet at least every 3 months. If this is not the case, you can clean the carpet every 6 months.

3) Type of business

Your type of commercial space is also a thing you should consider. As a general rule, we advise that warehouses, for example, clean the carpet every 3 months. In contrast, law offices, office buildings, and back offices should be cleaned every 6 months. Schools and churches should have their carpets cleaned every 3 months, as well as retail stores and restaurants. Medical offices are not given a specific recommendation, given all the regulations regarding their sanitation processes. If you have a medical office, it is recommended you have a cleaning professional visit your facilities and give you an in person recommendation.
